How to avoid the Cracks of Doom!

Course Objectives:   This course is designed to help students demonstrate continuous progress toward control of penmanship, grammar, mechanics, sentence structure, and usage of standard English in the context of writing and speaking.

Textbooks:     Heath Grammar
                              Workbook

Classroom Materials:    Students are expected to come to class with the relevant textbook(s), notebook, paper, pen, and assignment pad.

Grading:    Daily Grades (daily quizzes, brief writing assignments, homework papers) 33%
Test Grades  (chapter tests, vocabulary tests, large projects, notebook)      66%

*To average grades, I add up the total number of earned points and divide by the total number of possible points.

Academic Honesty:    All instances of cheating constitute violations of the academic honesty policy of Trinity Episcopal Day School and will be addressed in accordance with the policy set forth in the 2002-2003 Parent and Student Handbook.

Attendance and Make-Up Work:    Students are expected to adhere to rules of attendance as stated in the Handbook on p. 34.  I expect students to be prepared for class, especially when absent for only one day.  Parents may call the school to get homework assignments or the student may call a buddy to find out what is due the next day.  In the case of extended excused absences, the student will check in with me to make arrangements for make-up work.

Late Work:    Homework is due on assigned date during class period; no make-up is allowed, unless a student has been out for an extended time (more than 1 day) and has an excused absence.  Papers, projects, notebooks, etc., submitted after the due date will receive 10 points off for each day the work is late.  Report cards and progress reports are due back signed no later than 3 days after handed out.

Teacher:    I will be available after school on most days to discuss any problems a student might be experiencing with this course, except on Tuesdays.  Parents of students who are experiencing any serious difficulty with this course should schedule an appointment.
